Promoting green public procurement (GPP) in support of the 2020 goals

As part of the training sessions taking place in countries across the European Union, UNDP Croatia organised a Train the Procurers seminar dedicated to green public procurement which was hosted by the Croatian Chamber of Economy.

The training session was intended for public procurers who are members of the GPP 2020 project and public organisations that take care of socially responsible business and wish to reduce their negative impact on the environment. It covered methods and means of including green public procurement criteria, comparison of lowest and economically advantageous prices. There was a focus on the importance of all procurement stages, with a spotlight on preparation and research and time spent working on real tenders from organisations.

“It is very important to understand what the market can offer. We all have wishes, but our budget is always limited to a certain level. Therefore we need to explore all possibilities, market offers, and compare products and services before we decide what to buy. We have to understand that energy efficient products have a lower impact on our environment and once we accept this fact we will see the benefits all around – from financial benefits to cleaner environment, an important component we need to keep for future generations”, said UNDP National Consultant Mrs. Licul Martinčić.
